The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) released disappointing findings this week about how schools are preparing young Americans for a lifetime of active, principled citizenship. The national report card shows too many students in eighth and twelfth grade do not grasp the basics about democratic institutions and their rights and responsibilities as adult citizens.
